Mushroom Pasta with Walnut Basil Pesto

My basil has been experiencing a growth spurt.  Naturally, my thoughts turned to pesto.  Any recipe can be improved with the presence of pesto…. never mind, I lied – it’s the abundance of garlic that makes any recipe better.

Facts of life: I love salmon.  I love mushrooms.  And I LOVE shallots.  So when I found a recipe that combined all three I was pretty stoked.  In fact, I was so excited that I neglected to read the recipe.   You think I’m kidding?  I’m completely serious.   But I’m going to blame this on the fact that I was secretly craving mushroom stroganoff.
